Embroidery is a process where designs are sewn by computerized embroidery machines onto a garment. The designs are programmed into the computer during the set up process, and then are produced automatically by the machines, producing a precise, consistent design on every garment. Unlike screen printing, embroidered designs can have as many colors as you wish, since there is no additional set up process for different thread colors. Embroidery is priced according to the time it takes to stitch a design. A large design takes many more stitches to create than a small design, and therefore takes more time to complete, which in turn will cost you more money in production time. In addition, your design may require additional preparation time in order to digitize it, or convert it to the computerized format that our embroidery machines use. For example, if you wanted to embroider a design that covers the entire back of a jacket, this would obviously be larger than embroidering on the chest (heartsize) of your shirt. How much larger? The average number of stitches in a design that will fit on your chest is 8,000. A design large enough to cover your whole back would require a staggering 60,000 stitches! Based on these totals, our back design would require a significantly longer amount of time to produce than our heartsize design, which would make it cost that much more. All prices calculated are priced on the traditional heartsize, cap front or sleeve design 8500 or less stitches. If your logo or design’s stitch count will exceed this, we will contact you with additional charges before we process your order.
Screen printing is a process where inks are applied with a squeegee to a garment by forcing them through a light-sensitive mesh (called a “screen”). To create a design for screen printing, each section of the design that would require a different color of ink is isolated, then burned onto its own screen. This is called color separating. More colors in a design mean that more screens need to be burned, which will in turn cost you more money in screen preparation and production time. Quali T offers up to 8 colors per screen print design, anything requiring more than 8 spot colors, we would recommend a direct to garment (DTG) process. Per screen fee: after you purchase 72 pieces your first screen is FREE, each and every screen thereafter is $25. For example, if you wanted to screen print an image of the American flag, it would require 3 separate screens (one for red, one for white, and one for blue.) Depending on the color of the item on which the design is being screen printed, it is possible to eliminate a screen. To screen print our American flag on a white T-shirt would only require two screens ($50 total charge for 2 screens), because the white color of the T shirt can be used in lieu of using white ink. Why cover a white shirt with white ink? Quali T can help you save money by offering other time- and money-saving suggestions for your screen print designs. Please note: if you choose a stock design that is 3 color and wish to change it to a 2 color print, that is acceptable. Your screen print application fee per garment is priced by how many ink colors per location with an additional location fee as applicable. Quali T keeps all screens on file for one year from each and every purchase. So, if you ordered in July and want to reorder in May the following year, the screen is still on file. After one year, there will be a $15 charge for reburning your screen.
